Khwaja Nazimuddin, the Governor General of Pakistan, during his visit to East Pakistan declared in a convention at Paltan Maidan that only Urdu will be the state language of Pakistan.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said today that he would close down the American diplomatic mission in Dacca if all other major Western nations recognized his country and the United States did not.

2005
Former Finance Minister, Shah AMS Kibria, and four other Awami League (AL) activists are killed and at least 70 persons sustain injuries during a grenade attack on an Awami League (AL) rally at Boidder Bazaar in the Habiganj district.

2006
41st Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest Muslim gathering after Hajj, begins on the bank of Turag river in Tongi.

2007
Five of the seven Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leaders and cadres, who have been sentenced to death, asked for presidential mercy. Mercy petitions by the outfit’s chief Abdur Rahman, Ataur Rahman Sunny, Abdul Awal, Khaled Saifullah and Iftekhar al Mamun were submitted to the jail authorities.

SoftExpo 2009, five-day long software exposition organized by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) kicks off at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka; the theme of the expo was 'Linking People with Technology'.

Five former army men - sacked lieutenant colonel Syed Faruque Rahman, retired lieutenant colonel Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, retired lieutenant colonel Muhiuddin Ahmed, retired lieutenant colonel AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and retired major Bazlul Huda - were hanged at Dhaka Central Jail for killing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.
